Arnaldo Pomodoro
The concerns of my work as an artist have always centered on the relationship between the individual sculpture and the space in which it is sited.

A sculpture, indeed, is the realization of a space of its own within the greater space in which it lives and moves. When a work transforms the place in which it is located, it takes on the valence of a true and proper witness of the times that spawned it, and thus places a mark on its context, enriching it with additional layers of memory.

Today I think of my sculptures as crystals, or nuclei, or as eyes, or signal fires; and I see them as relating to borders and voyages, to the worlds of complexity and imagination.

Arnaldo Pomodoro

Londra, Tornabuoni Art

10 febbraio – 16 aprile 2016

The new gallery Tornabuoni Art in London presents an anthology of Arnaldo Pomodoro, from the early works to the more recent.
The exhibition begins with the Grande Tavola dei Segni of 1961/62, a sort of sculptural pictures with symbols and intricate details that – as the artist says - represent projects, thoughts... almost like the creation of a secret language, dense with great poetic myths and private symbols. The exhibition continues with the forms of Euclidean geometry studied by Pomodoro: Pyramids , Columns and Spheres.
“After the success of the ground-breaking retrospective of Arnaldo Pomodoro in our Paris gallery in 2009, we couldn’t wait to bring these sculptures to London”, says gallery director Ursula Casamonti. “In this ambitious sculptural exhibition we wanted to show a different side of Spatialist research to the work that was presented within our inaugural Lucio Fontana retrospective.”
